Beetroot

Beetroot, also known as beets, is a vegetable that belongs to the species Amaranthaceae, a family of plants that includes various leafy vegetables such as chard and spinach. Fairbanks offers a range of seeds, including speciality beetroots for bunching with smooth globe-shaped bulbs and a vibrant dark red colour. These beetroots bear intense dark green tops and present well when bunched together.

Being a hardy vegetable, beetroot can typically be cultivated all year round in New Zealand but grows best during the spring and autumn seasons.

The edible portion of the beetroot is its bulbous root, which has a sweet, earthy flavour and can be cooked, pickled, or even eaten raw. Beetroot is a nutrient-dense vegetable which offers a diverse range of health benefits. It’s rich in vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, potassium, manganese and folate (vitamin B9).
