Zucchini, also known as courgette, is a variety of summer squash belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family, a species of plant which includes pumpkins, melons and cucumbers. Often mistaken for a vegetable, it is a highly adaptable fruit which can be prepared in a variety of ways and enjoyed in a host of dishes. Primarily, zucchinis are roasted, grilled, baked or sautéed and often used in an assortment of savoury dishes such as stews, casseroles and salads. Some even use a spiralizer to turn it into noodle form for a healthy alternative to pasta.
